Strategically located just five miles downriver from New Orleans, the St. Bernard Port Harbor and Terminal District is a full-service marine terminal and inter-modal facility that offers a wide array of berthing options and cargo handling services. Associated Terminals is the exclusive operator of the port's marine facilities, located between mile posts 86.5 and 90.5 A.H.P. on the lower Mississippi River. Additionally, Associated Terminals is the operator of the port's four deep-draft berthing locations, and also of dock locations within the Chalmette Slip. At these facilities, Associated Terminals offers a variety of stevedoring and other ancillary services related to bulk and break-bulk cargos, such as truck and rail loading and unloading, warehousing and storage, bagging capabilities, and screening and processing services.

DOCKS AND INTERMODAL FACILITIES

The port’s docks and intermodal facilities are located within the Chalmette Slip at mile post 90.5 A.H.P. Offering highly efficient dockside transfer operations between vessel, rail, truck and storage, the Chalmette Slip is a 1,700-foot long, 300-foot wide channel on the Mississippi River which features continuous dock frontage on both sides. This unique facility is a slack water harbor with a water depth maintained at a minimum of 33 feet, offering “a safe harbor” to vessels loading or unloading cargos. Dockside warehousing, as well as open lay-down areas, are used for storage of various bulk and break-bulk commodities. Other extensive covered and uncovered storage areas at the site are used for long-term storage.

DEEP-DRAFT BERTHS

Supported by Associated Terminal’s fleet of high-capacity floating derricks, the port's four deep-draft mooring systems can accommodate Panamax-sized vessels with up to a 45-foot draft. These berths include two midstream buoy systems located in Chalmette at mile 90.0 and 89.5 A.H.P. and one system in Meraux at mile 86.5 A.H.P. These systems offer two-sided transfer of cargo between vessels and barges. Additionally, the Arabi midstream mooring dolphins located at mile post 90.5 A.H.P. affords walk-on access to vessels.

IDEAL LOCATION

These facilities are advantageous for customers searching for a truly intermodal facility for trans-loading cargos between water born vessels and various transportation options over land. Rail service at the terminal is provided by the Norfolk Southern Corporation with switching access to six Class I railways. This rail system offers direct access to many Eastern U.S cities as well as connections to all trunk line railroads serving New Orleans. Numerous rail sidings running adjacent to the docks can accommodate simultaneous rail loading/unloading operations. This location also offers easy access to Interstate 510, with connections to I-10, I-55 and I-59, and features an 80-ton truck scale on site.
