Holcim Praises Associated Terminals for Record-Setting Work at Alabama Facility

Mr. Joe McFalls, Plant Manager at Holcim Cement in Theodore, AL, recently held a special luncheon to commend Associated Terminals for the work being performed on-site at the massive plant on the Mobile Ship Channel. This facility is Holcim’s largest cement production plant in the United States. Kerry Landry, AT’s manager in Mobile, accepted the commendation for the company.

McFalls commented that Associated has managed stevedoring operations at the plant for more than one year without any lost time to injury. He also said the company handled 2.98 million tons of cargo at the facility during that one year period, a record for annual tonnage handled at the plant.

Associated Terminals has been performing stevedoring services at the Alabama plant since it returned to operation following Hurricane Katrina. Associated owns and operates three track-mounted cranes on the wharf and employs more than 20 people at the Holcim facility.

Associated handles bulk cargo for Holcim as it arrives on ships and barges. Cargoes handled as feedstock for the cement plant include gypsum, limestone, lime rock, coal, iron ore, iron ore millscale and shredded rubber tires.

McFalls said, “Associated is the first contractor I have had working for Holcim that exceeded every goal we gave them.”

Says Landry: “It was an honor for our company to be recognized by Holcim. We worked accident free and set a tonnage record, honoring our pledge: the ability and attitude to accomplish anything for our customers.”
