General Cargo Facilities at the Port of St. Bernard leased to Associated Terminals

Associated Terminals recently signed a lease with the Port of St. Bernard to become the operator of Dock # 2 within the Chalmette Slip. This facility is a general cargo and break-bulk marine terminal with the capability of transferring cargo direct from vessel to barge, rail, truck and/or storage. This terminal features 120,000 square feet of dockside warehouse space with adjacent concrete lay-down areas, setting atop 1,700 feet of continuous dock frontage.

Strategically located just five miles downriver from New Orleans, the St. Bernard Port and Terminal District is a full-service marine terminal and inter-modal facility that offers a wide array of berthing options and cargo handling services. The Chalmette Slip, consisting of Docks # 1 and # 2, is located at mile-post 90.5 A.H.P. on the lower Mississippi River. The port recently completed a $20 million renovation and expansion project on these facilities making them one of the most updated marine terminal facilities on the lower Mississippi River.

This announcement follows the recent acquisition by Associated Terminals of the Bulk Material Transfer and Gulf Coast Dockside operations also located within the Port of St. Bernard. These companies were acquired in May 2002 and held the exclusive rights to all bulk cargo trans-loading operations at the ports marine facilities located between miles 89.5 and 90.5 on the lower Mississippi River. These operations involve a lease of Dock # 1 within the Chalmette Slip, as well as a deep draft mooring dolphin system and newly installed midstream mooring buoy system. “The lease of Dock # 2 to Associated Terminals consolidates all of the ports public marine facilities to one operator for the first time since the port purchased the Chalmette Slip in 1994.” said Bobby Scafidel, Executive Director of the St. Bernard Port, Harbor & Terminal District.

David Fennelly, President of Associated Terminals, stated, “We are pleased to be able to increase our presence at the Port of St. Bernard and we are excited about the potential which exists for these facilities. We can now offer services covering the entire spectrum of bulk and break-bulk cargos transiting the lower Mississippi River with access to all types of land and water based transportation options. The unification of all of the ports marine facilities under one flag will allow for the most effective marketing of these unique facilities.”
