On the 4th of July, the Port of St. Bernard along with Associated Terminals celebrated the completion of the newest midstream buoy system on the lower Mississippi River. Located at Mile Marker 89.5 A.H.P., the completion of this new system capped a two-year long project spearheaded by Mr. Bill Bergeron, President of Bulk Material Transfer. The first ship to berth in this new system was the M/V “Mary G” which was a 623 foot-long, 26,870 GRT vessel loaded with 25,000 metric tons of bulk cargo. This ocean going vessel was in berth from July 24th through July 27th, where she was unloaded by a combination of the derrick barges “Gregory L”, “Paddy Kay” and “Docksider Too”.
Through December 31st, 2002, a total of 15 vessels loaded with a combined 300,000 metric tons of cargo were unloaded at this system. This new berth is an important added asset to the Port of St. Bernard facilities and has helped Associated Terminals expand its options available to shippers at our Port of St. Bernard operations.
