Unloading Wind Turbines at Chalmette Slip - April 23, 2019

Associated Terminals at Chalmette Slip near New Orleans has been awarded the contract to discharge over 400 wind turbine blades by Central Oceans. Each blade is over 190 feet long and requires specialized handling and transport. The wind turbine blades are made abroad and are being transported to the United States over the next several months on large ocean vessels. The blades will be both held in storage at the terminal as well as discharged direct to barge for transport on the Mississippi River. The blades will be transported from Associated’s terminals within the St. Bernard Port, Harbor & Terminal District via river barge to a distribution terminal in Minnesota and will supply local wind farms in the region throughout 2019.
